Jody Bergsma began painting as
a young child and has always drawn images from her
imagination. Raised on the edge of Lake Whatcom, in the wilderness of the Pacific Northwest, Jody enjoyed
the company of her bush
pilot father, creative mother, three older brothers and her younger
sister. Jody established herself as a children's illustrator early
in life, but as she grew older, she had a strong desire to evolve her
painting style.
Jody's past travels to Europe and Canada provide her with exposure to art
museums and a renewed inspiration for wilderness impressions. After
a few years of experimentation, Jody established a second style of
artwork that is very different from her children's fantasy illustrations,
yet quite similar in their imaginative quality.
Bergsma's Natural Elements are inspired by her relationship to our natural
world. She travels yearly to new locations, visiting museums and sites
that contribute to the study of cultural myths, symbols, and wildlife,
which together weave her new images and unique vision.
